Back in 1987 designer Tinker Hatfield introduced the first innovative air infused trainer from Nike, the Air Max 1. Since then Nike have transcended the silhouette and technology of the trainer to create a diverse and incredibly classic family of Air Max. If trainers had families, the Air Max would be the Royal Family of Nike.

With annual Air Max Day on March 26  just around the corner, Nike have released a visual history of the Air Max silhouette to celebrate the iconic collection of timeless trainers.

The Air Max has become a must have for anyone in the sneaker community, with the wide variety of colours, textures and endless collaborations there is a shape and colour to suit everyone, if not you can always design your own with the NikeID facility.

A day at Tinker Hatfields desk: Nike takes a look back through the archives to remember the Icons of the Air Max Family and present us with The Masters of Max.
